What Is Evangelism? The word evangelism comes from the Greek word euangelion, meaning “good news.” Evangelism is the biblical ministry of proclaiming the Good News that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, rose again, and offers forgiveness and eternal life to everyone who believes in Him. Evangelism is much more than speaking about religion. It is introducing people to a living relationship with Jesus Christ. The purpose of evangelism is not merely to increase church attendance but to bring people into saving faith and lifelong discipleship. An evangelist serves as a messenger of hope, pointing people to God’s love, grace, mercy, and salvation.
